Google Unleashes Possible Small Algorithm Update on Yom Kippur

Here we go again! It appears that a small Google algorithm update rolled out between September 16 and 17, coincidentally on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

According to Search Engine Round Table, who first reported on this update, there has been limited chatter on SEO forums, but tracking tools did show some fluctuations around these dates.

It is not believed that this is related to the increase in title changes that Google announced last week.

The chatter also carried over to Twitter, where SEO consultant Glenn Gabe posted his observations.

Definitely seeing some sites with a lot of volatility starting around 9/16 and 9/17. It’s always an interesting time of the year, as Google’s algos can shift (leading into fall from summer). https://t.co/R0PXxsZVNq — Glenn Gabe (@glenngabe) September 20, 2021

Here are some comments about the update that were recently posted to  WebmasterWorld and Black Hat World.

“Looks like something happened yesterday in our niche. I dropped for a number of keywords and replaced by unknowns.”

“My SERPs were all over the place this morning, we had dropped from 1st to 5th and were showing two results again. Now we are back on top. Seems like it was just a quick shuffle?”

“After 18 consecutive days of daily drops, today I see a significant improvement. Did anyone notice any movement today?”

“Hello everyone, one of the page in my website use to be in first page on particular keyword. Today when I checked in Google, that particular page has been taken down. I mean not in penalty way. Is it because of a Google update or any other issues. Kindly help me out regarding this.”

As previously mentioned, tracking tools also picked up on a bit of volatility.
